About the Tournament

Established in 1950 by author Ernest Hemingway, this annual fishing tournament is considered the “highlight of Cuba’s fishing year” and one of the oldest big-game fishing tournaments across the globe.
Not only will you experience fishing on some of the most beautiful waters in the Caribbean and learning about protecting its species, this is also one of the few tournaments of its kind, allowing the Cuban locals to participate and engage with other participants to learn about the history and culture of Cuba.

Rules & Regulations:

Rules according to IGFA, Tag and Release method. The line for the “Ernest Hemingway” Tournament is up to 36 kg (80 pounds). Only the Captain and one team representative will attend the Captain´s meeting. Tag and Release reports or capture reports must be given to the Control Tower of our marina indicating the time, team number and location. The Jury from Cuba Sport Fishing Federation will take irrevocable decisions regarding the validation of Tag and Release capture previously printed in the photograph.

  • Meet your local Cuban guide and bus driver after you exit Cuban customs
  • Transfer to your hotel/house while the tour guide speaks about the local area
  • Hotel/house check-in and freshen up
  • Transfer to Marina Hemingway while the tour guide speaks about the local area
  • Registration, Captains’ meeting and welcome cocktail with local and foreign participants in the tournament
  • Group dinner with a guide at nearby, locally-owned restaurant or “Paladar”
  • Visit Hotel Nacional along with a cocktail at the hotel
  • Transfer back to hotel/home for the end of the night

  • Wake up call and full breakfast at hotel/house
  • Transfer to Marina Hemingway while the tour guide speaks about the local area
  • Prepare for departure out of the marina

  • Transfer back to hotel/house

June 13 - Day Off from the Hemingway Fishing Tournament
  • Full breakfast at hotel/house
  • Panoramic through Old Havana learning the history of La Havana
  • Have lunch at La Terraza de Prado, a locally-owned restaurant
  • Walking tour of Old Havana (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with local tour guide visiting local monuments, government buildings, the port, and El Floridita (Hemingway’s favorite daiquiri bar)
  • Travel back to hotel/house
  • Change for dinner
  • Transportation to dinner
  • Group dinner with guide upscale Italian restaurant in Miramar
  • Transfer back to hotel/home for the end of the night and prepare for an early day of fishing

June 14 - Third Fishing day of the Hemingway Tournament
  • Wake up call and full breakfast at hotel/house
  • Transfer to Marina Hemingway while the tour guide speaks about the local area
  • Prepare for departure out of the marina

  • Clean up and prepare for next day of fishing
  • Transfer back to hotel/house

June 15 - Fourth and Last day of Fishing in the Hemingway Tournament

  • Clean equipment and pack up after a day of fishing
